Evidence proving the medicinal value of cannabis among the elderly continues to mount. The latest scientific study from Israel shows that cannabis treatment has tremendous benefits for patients over 65 years of age.
According to a study published in the European Journal of Internal Medicine, “the therapeutic use of cannabis safe and effective in old age“. Even more promising is the report’s conclusion that “cannabis use may reduce the use of other prescription drugs, including opioids.”

According to the experimental data obtained:
During the entire study period, 2,736 patients over 65 began cannabis treatment and responded to the initial questionnaire. The mean age was 74.5 ± 7.5 years. The main indications for cannabis treatment were pain (66.6 %) and cancer (60.8%). After 6 months of treatmentI am 93.7 percent of respondents reported that the improvement in their condition and pain level decreased on a scale of 0-10 from 8 to 4. The most common side effects were: dizziness (9.7 percent) and dry mouth (7.1 percent). After 6 months, 18.1% of those treated stopped using opioid analgesics or reduced their doses.
Total main conclusion: almost every patient (93.7%) reported improvement and reduction in pain. There aren't many drugs - prescription or over-the-counter - that have the same level of success as cannabis.
According to the authors of the study, the results suggest that older patients, who usually take a large many drugs per day, they can cut their use, simply by incorporating cannabis into their wellness regimen.
