Can expectant mothers use cannabis?
It must be recalled here that when we say the word “cannabis” – we always mean cannabis without psychoactive effects – especially CBD. Studies have shown that the CBD present in the hemp plant is capable of treating many diseases, including depression.
The hemp plant contains no more than 0.2% THC. As a result, it is not psychoactive. This is why cannabis is legal in most countries and is safe for the elderly, children, and even pets. From uncomfortable conditions and sensations during pregnancy, you can help yourself with CBD. Although most still see this idea negatively.
social stigma
Although it’s better not to talk about it. Pregnancy is beautiful and exciting, but it is also a time when the mother-to-be is very vulnerable. Most people who oppose the use of CBD during pregnancy believe that it is very risky. On the other hand, those who used it during pregnancy claim that it helped them cope with pain, anxiety and depression. They also state that they have always been confident that CBD use is associated with less risk than most prescription drugs at risk.
Is CBD Safe During Pregnancy?
Dr. Stuart Titus, Senior Scientist and President of Medical Marijuana, Inc. explains that the safety of CBD can only be determined by taking a closer look at the endocannabinoid system and how it responds to external cannabinoids. Titus reports that most people, including pregnant women, have a cannabinoid deficiency, a severe health deficiency that can lead to early onset dementia, chronic fatigue, and even fibromyalgia. Based on this logic, it is clear that a diet rich in cannabinoids will benefit both the mother and the unborn child.
The study shows that the psychoactive nature of THC has the ability to interfere with the endocannabinoid system and therefore can lead to brain defects in unborn children by interrupting neural network formation.
However, CBD works in a completely different way than THC. Both CBD and THC work with CB1 and CB2 receptors. These receptors are activated either by natural cannabinoids found in the body or by external cannabinoids such as THC and CBD. THC activates these receptors by binding to them, while CBD works by stimulating the body’s natural cannabinoids, causing them to activate the receptors. CBD does not have any psychoactive effects as it does not bind to these receptors, unlike THC.
How can CBD be useful for expectant mothers?
A 2010 study found that CBD has the ability to reduce contractions. The study also cited an earlier study that found that THC and naturally occurring cannabinoids such as anandamide had similar effects on contractions.
CBD has essentially the same effect as oxytocin antagonists such as Atosiban, which is used to reduce/stop premature contractions in pregnant mothers.
Clinical studies have shown that CBD significantly reduces nausea and vomiting, common symptoms in pregnant women.
CBD is also known for its anxiolytic and analgesic properties, which can help pregnant women deal with anxiety and pain during pregnancy.

How exactly to use CBD during pregnancy?
The best and safest way to use CBD is with CBD oil, which is dripped under the tongue. Pregnant women with pain in the body and muscles can easily use CBD gels as well.
What do the studies on CBD and pregnancy say?
There are several studies on the use of CBD during pregnancy. However, there are a few promising ones. One such study showed that CBD may be helpful in reducing/stopping premature contractions while expecting mothers.
In 2016, Dr. Shayna Konna conducted several studies to determine if cannabis exposure could lead to complications in postnatal development in children. Surprisingly, Dr. Shayna and her team found that hemp, when used as an insulator (in the form of possibly the aforementioned CBD oil - crystalline) did not lead to any negative birth complications or fetal development problems.
Dr. Stuart Titus, President of Medical Marijuana, Inc. and an extensive researcher in the field, said he observed women who used CBD oil during pregnancy and, contrary to popular belief, their children actually thrived.
