CBG (Cannabigerol or English CBG) appears to be the cannabinoid responsible for most of the effects of cannabis. But many do not even know that such a substance in hemp exists. This is because CBG is working behind the scenes, which scientists have only just begun to uncover….
CBG and its effects
CBG is non-psychoactive cannabinoid and is perceived by scientists as the “stem cell” of other chemicals in hemp. It can be quickly converted to other cannabinoids by enzymes present in hemp, which often explains the low concentration of CBG in most hemp varieties.
In addition to its unique role in the formation of other cannabinoids, CBG has a number of important effects unique to this substance.
As Dr. Bonni Goldstein, director of Canna-Centers, explains, CBG prevents a chemical called GABA, the most important inhibitory neurotransmitter in the human central nervous system, from being trapped in our brain.
“When GABA is suppressed, you achieve true muscle relaxation, relieving anxiety. These effects are similar to CBG, which is also very good. antidepressant and has antifungal effect”, adds Dr. Goldstein.
CBG and research
Since CBG is still poorly understood, there is little evidence. Most studies show similar effects for CBD, but we need to wait a little longer to pinpoint the effects.
Earlier this year, researchers from Italy observed the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects of CBG in an experimental model of inflammatory bowel disease. The conclusion of the study states that “CBG could be a new model of therapeutic treatment” for patients with digestive disorders.
Other preclinical studies suggest more options for using CBG as a COX-2 inhibitor or as a replacement for drugs known as NSAIDs (nsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).
CBG and its medical potential, as well as how it can be used in practice, need to be further explored. However, it’s great to know that other substances found in hemp other than THC or CBD can help sick people. Not to mention, without CBG, most other cannabinoids should not have been created.
